Complete Streets Initiatives

Complete Streets is the concept that streets should be designed to accommodate all modes of travel, not just automobiles, and to allocate the public streets to fulfill the vision for a city offering a high quality of life for its residents and workers. Streets are for everyone, including walkers, bikers, transit users and others of all ages and abilities. Complete Streets make it easy and safe to cross the street, walk to local shops, or bicycle to work. They allow buses to run on time and make it safe for people to walk to and from bus stops and light rail stations.

Complete Streets help create livable communities for the full range of users, including children, people with disabilities, and older adults. If you design a city for 8 year olds and 80 year olds, you design it for everyone. Complete Streets improve social and environmental equity, safety, and public health, while reducing transportation costs and traffic woes.
